Book: Hiking around Beijing
The second edition of Hiking Around Beijing has now been published, and is available for purchase!
We're still working on getting a good supply from the Foreign Language Press, but we have a limited supply available right now!
The book retails for 78 RMB, and, by arrangement with the original authors, half of the proceeds are going to the Hope Foundation.
From the introduction
This book is an updated version of a pioneering work titled, Hiking Around Beijing, which was published in 2003 and contains the Beijing Hikers' most popular hikes. The book was inspired by four friends. Realizing that there was a wonderful world of rugged mountains and valleys, waterfalls and temples with an hour or so's drive of the Chinese capital, they set out to explore.
The mountainous and scenic areas which surround Beijing form a rough L-shape, running from northeast to southwest. All the hikes in this book are located within Beijing Municipality, and therefore accessible in one day. There is ample scope for exploring, and we hope that this book can help more people get out and discover Beijing's countryside, add to the number of hikes and help keep those invaluable trails clear for others to enjoy.

More about the book
The first edition Hiking Around Beijing was written by Seema Bennett, Nicky Mason and Beijing Hikers founder Huilin Pinnegar. It contained useful information for hiking, and maps and descriptions for twenty hikes in the north, north-west, and north-east parts of the Beijing municipality. The 2010 edition contains revised descriptions, driving directions, and maps, and was produced by the Foreign Languages Press. Beijing Hikers helped with the revisions, and contributed several new hiking trails.
