Beijing Hikers - Hiking in the hills around Beijing since 2001

Hiking photos - Ming Dynasty River City, 2009/11/25

Built midway through the Ming Dynasty, Yanhecheng – the Yan River City – was an important frontier fortress. Its location allowed control of the river, plus several mountain passes. According to Ming Dynasty records, a garrison was established in 1553AD, and construction of the city was completed in 1578AD.

On this visit we took a good look around, then did a quick bit of hiking in the hills before finishing up with a tasty lunch and a look at some protected Great Wall towers.
