Special Trip Photos - Tengger Desert, July 2010
The Tengger region of the Alashan Plateau is located in the south-west section of the huge Gobi Desert. To get there we flew to Yinchuan in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, and then drove over the border into Inner Mongolia.
On this trip we tried out a different desert route to our last hike in the area, adding extra desert hiking, and avoiding the areas where we saw a lot of tourists last time.
Below you'll find a selection of Huijie's photos, plus a few shots from our hikers.

Dennis woke up early and got this good shot of dunes and clouds.
Some days the wind was up, and we could see the how the dunes move through the desert as sand is blown.
Kathleen took this shot of people attacking lunch in a yurt.
We spotted a herd of camels.

Dennis took this photo of one of our campsites.
After coming out of the desert, we headed back to our hotel in Bayanhot for a good meal (and a good wash!).
On the last day of the trip we did some sightseeing, visiting the Western Xia Imperial Tombs, built some time between 1038 and 1227 A.D.
We also stopped at the Sanguankou pass to have a look at some old Great Wall.
