Personalised tours and Private hikes

In addition to our regularly scheduled hikes we can organise personalised tours and private hikes. On this page we have information about two of our most popular personalised tours - Huanghuacheng Great Wall and the Great Wall Spur. Personalised tours are more expensive than our regular hikes because there are usually less people to share the base expenses with. The prices quoted are based on a group of two people and are subject to change.

Huanghuacheng Great Wall

Huanghuacheng (Yellow Flower) Great Wall is located in Changping County, and is known for the steep angles at which it climbs the hills in the area. The wall is in good condition and is relatively safe.

The hike starts from north of the Black Mountain. To begin we cross the suspension bridge at the foot of the local dam and reservoir and climb a mountainside trail to reach the Great Wall. As we climb higher we will pass through several towers, and the panoramic views of the wall, the reservoir, and the surrounding hills will begin to open up. We can follow the Great Wall up to the ridge, turning back if it gets too hot or tiring. After we're done walking we'll get a nice lunch of Chinese food at the local restaurant.

Cost includes transportation to and from Beijing, English-speaking guide, entrance fees/tickets/tolls, snacks, water, and Chinese lunch.
Things to bring: Hiking shoes, backpack.

Great Wall Spur

For this hike we visit a section of the Great Wall that was completed around 1580, during the reign of the Ming Dynasty Emperor Wan Li.

The hike begins with a short walk up a valley road, followed by a climb up a hillside path to reach the Great Wall. This steep climb will take about forty minutes, and is the most difficult part of the hike.

After reaching the top we’ll follow the Great Wall as it winds along and up a ridge. Because the Great Wall was designed as a defensive fortification we will get excellent views, with mountains, villages, and other stretches of the Great Wall all in sight as we walk. We will pass through towers along the way, and stop for a snack break at the highest point.

Our walk on the Wall will finish at a big tower – from there we’ll follow a trail down another valley, finally arriving at a small country hotel with a distinctive red roof. The people that run the hotel keep quite a few animals – cats wander about freely, dogs are kept tied up, and rabbits, pheasants, and peacocks are kept safe in cages and pens.

Cost includes transportation to and from Beijing, English-speaking guide, entrance fees/tickets/tolls, snacks, water, and Chinese lunch.
Things to bring: Hiking shoes, backpack.
