This backpacking trip along the Great Wall took us into Hebei Province, where we followed the Wall between Big Camp Plate Village and Chenjiapu Village. Special Trip Photos - Bashang Grasslands, 2010/06/18

On June 6th we headed out to Miyun County for the Great Flood hike, a very scenic trail that had us following rivers through boulder-filled canyons, climbing a steep valley, and walking through grassy meadows on the way to a village that was abandoned after a particularly large flood. In May 2010 we travelled out to the Alashan region of the Gobi Desert on a four day trip through the desert. As well as exploring the dunes and seas of sand, we visited desert lakes and oases, rode camels, visited the Western Xia Imperial Tombs, and hiked in the Helan Mountains. Hiking photos - Zhenbiancheng and Big Plate Great Wall Challenge, 2010/5/15

Of the 18.5 kilometers we hiked, it seemed like we might have been walking on flat ground for just 1km in total. Despite a thick haze as we left the urban area of Beijing, we had breathtaking views of Hebei and the western border of Yanqing County as we tramped for seven and a half hours on the Zhenbiancheng section of the Great Wall. Trail Maintenance Day

When we scouted the trail for the Zhenbiancheng Great Wall Challenge, we noticed that sections of the route leading up to the Great Wall were very bushy. Changes to the cost of hiking

We're sorry to say that, because of rising costs, we have had to raise the price of many of our hikes. It's more than two years since we last changed the pricing, and, since then, inflation and other factors have increased the overhead of our operations. We take pride in offering a high level of service and a safe hiking experience, and, in order to maintain our high standards, the cost of hikes that pass through parks and/or are a long way out of the city will increase. Please read on for further explanation, and some good news as well!

Brush-rest Mountain is named for its jagged peaks that take the shape of the brush rest that is used in traditional Chinese painting.
