Changes in the Cost of Hiking

Over the last few years, the expenses involved in the organisation of our hikes have steadily increased due to inflationary pressure and general excitement as the Olympics approach. The costs of bus hire and food have all increased, but most of all, the cost of tickets for park entrance and access to some of our trails have increased dramatically - in some instances by more than 30RMB.

Until now we have been able to absorb these cost increases, but it has now become necessary to make some changes to the cost of our hikes. Here’s how we will do it.

Type 2 hikes - 250RMB per person
Most of our hikes are what we will call Type 2, the type that are most affected by the rise of expenses. These are some of our more interesting hikes from a cultural point of view - visits to the Great Wall and other well-preserved historical sites, and some of Beijing’s special parks.

Type 3 hikes - 300RMB per person
Over the years, some of our most popular hikes are those where we all enjoy a nice meal together after we’ve finished walking. . Type 3 hikes are much the same as the Type 2 hikes, but we will have a meal at a restaurant or guesthouse close by to where we finish up. This type of hike is especially good for people that enjoy hiking and would also like to find out a bit more about life in the Chinese countryside.

Overnight hikes
We’ll start doing overnight hikes again once the weather gets a bit less cold. We’ll figure out the cost for the overnight hikes when we get ready to start them again.

Our plan is to offer a mixture of these different types of hikes each month.

There are plenty of regulars that we really like seeing on the hikes, so we are working on a membership/discount deal to make it possible for people that hike regularly to pay less than the full price.

We’d like to hear what you think about these changes - if you have the time please .
