Changes to the cost of hiking
We’re sorry to say that, because of rising costs, we have had to raise the price of many of our hikes. It’s more than two years since we last changed the pricing, and, since then, inflation and other factors have increased the overhead of our operations.
The main place we have noticed the increase in cost is in park tickets. For example, entrance to the Jiankou area of Great Wall used to be free. These days, it costs 25RMB, and our local guide says the price will soon increase again. Hiring buses is also more expensive due to rising fuel prices and increased tolls. Therefore, the cost of hikes that pass through parks, and/or are a long way out of the city will be higher than in the past. Generally speaking, the price will increase by 20-30RMB.
We take pride in offering a high level of service and a safe hiking experience, and felt that if we tried using cheaper and less comfortable transport, or if we decreased the number of experienced guides per hike, we’d lose an important part of what makes Beijing Hikers a unique way to experience the countryside of Beijing.
The good news is that we’ve still got quite a few hikes that are outside of parks and not so far from the city - we’ll keep these hikes at 250RMB per person, and continue to schedule them regularly. Also, on every hike, you’ll still get tasty bananas, chocolate bars, and water; we’ll continue the snacks, drinks (ok, beers), and socialising after the hikes; and, with the cost of membership still the same, the 10% discount gives relatively greater savings.
Thank you for all of the hikes on which you’ve joined us in the past, and we hope to see you out on the trail this spring!
Your friends,
