Hiking photos - Dahaituo Mountain, 2010/10/16
Haituo Mountain sits on the border of Yanqing and Hebei province, and its 2,198m peak on the Beijing side is the second-highest in Beijing. It is part of the Yanshan mountain range that runs across the north of the Beijing municipality.
We started nice and early, and took our time on the hike. On the way back down the moon became visible, but we were back to the bus well before it got cold and dark.
Statistics: 6 hours of walking over approx. 14km. Start height 1,390m, finish height 1,253m, highest point 2,198m. Total climbing up approx. 1,345m. Estimated 3,071kCal burned.
Getting started on the hike.
Looking south over the mountains, with mist over the Guanting Reservoir.
We followed a ridgeline trail on the way up, passing through forested areas.
Trees on the slopes of Haituo Mountain.
Our super-fit local guide points towards the village where we'll finish later in the day.
... and then he's off again. The Beijing-side peak of Haituo Mountain can be seen at the top right of the photo.
Hikers on the way down from the peak.
Colourful grass, changing colours as it dries.
Huijie got a good shot of a bird.
Sunshine illuminates the top of trees.
We walked out this valley as the moon rose behind us.
