Hiking photos - Wuyuan, April 2011
In April 2011, we headed down to Jiangxi Province in South China to take a look around Wuyuan County. Wuyuan is famous for gorgeous, vast fields of yellow rapeseed flowers, and we timed our visit to make sure we'd see them all in full bloom—beautiful!
There was more than the flowers for us to look at. Also in the area: the ancient architecture and bridges of small riverside villages, the Jiangling Mountains, Jingdezhen, the 'Porcelain Capital' of China. Coming from Beijing, we also found the culture, lifestyle, and food of the area quite different.
An old bridge leads to a 2,000-year old camphor tree.

We walked by fields of yellow flowers.
We stopped for a photo with some curious local girls. They said it was the first time they had seen westerners up close.

Fields of flowers surround buildings built in the Hui architectural style.
More flowers!
Local snacks for sale on the street side: boiled eggs and peanuts, various skewers, steamed corn and sweet potato.

The Song Dynasty-era Rainbow Bridge, said to be the best engineered bridge in China.
Houses seen through reeds and flax.
