White River to Sihetang hike photos, 2009/10/10
This was our first time to take a group on this hike, and parts of it were a bit different than we expected: it wasn't so difficult, and movie-makers and quarriers had put gravel roads in since we were last there. The rest was as expected - great views of the canyon, river, rocks, reflections of rocks in the water, grass, and reeds.
Statistics: 2.75 hours hiking over 14.5km at approx. 3.3km/hr (4.5 hours total time); start height 225m, highest point 299m, lowest point 103m, approx. 147m going up, 113m going down. Estimated 1228kCal burned. River crossings: approx. ten!
(Stats don't include the post-meal trek.)
Autumn colours.
The canyon walls were lower at the start of the hike.
The people filming the movie built a road and made some bridges so they could get supplies in.
We were a bit confused about these guys, until we saw the film crew.
Reflections in the water.
Reflections of cliff walls and trees in the river.
Crossing through chilly water.
About a third of the way into the hike the canyon got a lot wider.
Large rock formations.
Off with the shoes again.
Perhaps tired of removing his shoes, an alternative method of crossing the river was used.
No chance to jump across this one, though.
Sheer cliffs, big rocks.
Reflections of reeds in a quiet pool.
Trees and reeds reflected in the river.
Towards the end of the hike, the canyon walls started getting lower again.
The last* river crossing.
* Probably the last.
