Huangshan
Located in Anhui Province, Huangshan—‘Yellow Mountain’—is famous throughout China for its scenery: granite peaks, crags, and cliffs clung to by ancient pine trees, with lookouts and viewing points that offer views of sunset, and sunrise over seas of clouds far below. It’s a holy mountain for Taoists, with shrines and monasteries spread over its slopes … and it’s a UNESCO World Heritage site, too.
Our guides spent several visits going up and down the steps and stairs that criss-cross the mountain, and we’ve designed a route that avoids most of the crowds and still hits the key highlights—Shixin Peak, Guangming Peak, Lotus Peak (the highest here), and the West Sea Grand Canyon, amongst others. We’ll hike as much as possible, using cable cars and the ‘little train’ to save some steps where necessary. Our hotel on the mountain is near Guangming Peak, and offers a great location for sunset and sunrise photography.
Ancient Villages
Before heading up the mountain we’ll spend a night in Hongcun Village, taking a walk to check out the local lifestyles and ancient architecture.
On the last day of the trip we’ll make a quick visit to Tunxi Ancient Town, where we’ll see well-preserved Ming and Qing-era buildings in the Hui style.
