Kids Club: Jingling Valley Loop

An easy loop hike with stops to play in pools of water.

Level 2
3–4 hours start to finish over 4km. (Can I do it?)

This hike is a short one – just about 4km in total – but we’ve planned it so we can spend extra time playing in pools of water not far from the finish.

Kids club: relaxed outings for kids to enjoy some family time in nature. Best for ages 5–12. Younger children would need to be carried for most of the way on this hike. Maybe too easy for bigger kids.

The hike

We start off at a roadside village and follow dirt and gravel tracks up into a valley. This is the main uphill part of the hike—a 1.5km walk that gains just over 150m of elevation.

The valley twists and turns between higher hills, eventually opening up to a flatter area where we’ll find an abandoned village. Some of the old fields here are still farmed, but no one lives here any more, and the old stone houses are all ruined.

We’ll take a turn at the abandoned village to hike down a leafy valley, passing another abandoned hamlet and eventually joining up with a stream.

We’ll follow the path by the stream and eventually hike into a tiny scenic area. The scenic area has several nice pools of water, and we’ll find a nice spot to paddle and play in the water.

From the pools it’s a short walk out to the ticket office of the scenic area, and that’s where we’ll finish the hike.

Things to do

Explore the abandoned villages—on the hike we’ll pass by two abandoned villages. Locals still plan corn in the old fields, but the houses are roofless ruins.

Spot the named rocks/peaks—the little scenic area boasts stony sights such as Giant Head of the Divine Eagle, the Lion King, the Lion Prince, Frog and Rabbit Stone, the Golden Cicada Playing with the Tortoise (and more …)

Play in the water—a stream flows between boulders in the little scenic area, forming pools in a few flatter areas. We’ll paddle in the water and see if we can find some frogs, tadpoles, and small fish.

Please contact us if you'd like more details about the plan.
