Our hike and trip schedule is affected by coronavirus

Coronavirus-related closures and restrictions mean there are not many options for hiking. Read more about it here.

For updates on hiking in Beijing please email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Our office is closed until further notice, so we're not going to be there to answer the phone.

The current situation

Mostly everywhere is closed for hiking.

Scenic areas are closed down—some of our hikes pass through ticketed areas. All the scenic areas we have been in contact with are currently closed, and their staff are not permitted to admit visitors until further notice.

Villages are closed to visitors—we have hikes that start off in or around villages, and our local contacts in these villages have reported that they are not permitted to receive visitors until further notice.

Are there any hikes at all?

We’ve been going out looking every week, and have been making enquiries with local contacts and scenic area staff for news on opening times and hiking.

Right now we have a very limited selection of hikes available.

We are planning to offer a hike every Saturday and Sunday.

For the Saturday hike, we’ll do a test hike with one of the hikes we scouted out during the week. If the test goes well, we’ll do that hike again the following Sunday.

The hikes for the coming Saturday and Sunday will be added to the website every Wednesday.

Email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) if you’d like to get an update as soon as those hikes are open for bookings..

There are extra terms and conditions for participation on hikes—please read our information about Operating hikes under COVID-19 precautions.

How about the Explore China trips?

Our understanding is that travel around China is possible, but not yet a realistic option for a holiday due to quarantine requirements on return to Beijing.
