Kids club: relaxed outings for kids to enjoy some family time in nature. This hike is best for ages 7 and up. Younger children would need to be carried for most of the way on this hike, or just do a short walk.

For this walk we will visit Stone Gate Mountain Camp, a private camping area in the mountains just north of Huairou City. It’s named Stone Gate Mountain for a large rock arch up on a cliff face.

In the valleys up in the mountains are two waterfalls – ‘Big Sister’ and ‘Little Sister’ – and we’ll hike up for a look. It’s not a difficult hike, and the concrete roads and paths on the way up are in good condition apart from a few rocky places which are washed out.

Not far below the waterfalls is a small temple, which we’ll also take a look at. Big kids might enjoy the hike up to the rock arch, which starts from the temple, and then continues down steep stairs back to the start point. The hike up to the rock arch is optional, and if you’re not taking that option we’ll walk back down the same way we came.

Back down at the camp area is a shaded area for our picnic and post-hike drinks, right next to the playground.
