Had to cancel this one, sorry—the chefs couldn’t make it!

This is an easy 3km hike that’s used for a nature walk by kids from the local village primary school. It should take us about 1.5–2 hours to finish, and there are some out-and-back options for bigger kids to walk a bit farther if interested.

We start off crossing a bridge over the train tracks, and then walk up to a pine forest. A gravel track leads up through the forest, and then along a ridgeline to a fire warden hut. We’ll hike up to the hut, and then back along the ridge for views of mountains and the reservoir below. If it’s a clear day, we’ll be able to see all the way back to Beijing city. The hike finishes with a walk down a rough track and back over the train tracks.

After finishing the walk, we’ll board the bus for a short drive to an extremely comfortable courtyard house hidden in the lanes of a larger village, relaxing with snacks and drinks in the yard and/or dining hall and joining in to make and bake gingerbread treats.

Cost covers the hike and snacks, plus Be Our Guest’s Chef Cindy’s* gingerbread-making guidance and all the ingredients.

* Last year Chef Cindy was in charge of the baking, this year it might be Chef Somebody-Else.

Kids club: relaxed outings for kids to enjoy some family time in nature. This outing is best for ages 6 and up. Younger kids could walk in places but would need to be carried for most of the hike.
