Challenge yourself ... a little bit!
With a bit of steep climbing up and down this isn’t a total walk in the park, but it’s not going to be so tough you’ll regret signing up. Make it more fun by hiking with your friends; suitable for fit kids ages 7 and up. Some exposure to heights.
For full information please visit our hiking festival event mini-site, and then come back here to sign up!

Village to the valley
1km / 29m ascent
Warm up the legs with a wee walk up the concrete road behind Stone Valley Village.
Up to the Great Wall
2.5km / 271m ascent
Follow a paved path up from the main road and then take a turn for the hills on a dirt trail that leads up to the Great Wall.
Up and down the Great Wall
4km / 131m ascent / 378m descent
Follow a rough and unrestored line of Great Wall up to a 1034m beacon tower and then down along a ridgeline. Some steep and slippery sections, with hill trail detours around the worst bits. Some exposure to heights, with a tricky descent.
Field trails over the hill
1.3km / 95m ascent / 88m descent
Get off the Great Wall before it gets too steep to be fun and hook around to cross back over at low point. Then use farm trails to climb up and over a low ridge and down the other side.
Towards the finish line
0.6km / 60m descent
Stroll on down a concrete road to Stone Valley Village, where your reward awaits. Congratulations!
Transportation: Private bus to the start of the hike and back again afterwards. Things you don’t need for the hike can be left on the bus.
Water and snacks: Bottled water will be passed out before the start of the hike. More water will be supplied at the finish point.
Pre-marked trail: The trail will be pre-marked, with support staff posted at key intersections.
Post-hike party: We’ll break out the beer and snacks for a celebration at the end of the hike.
