Gubeikou to Jinshanling snow hike, 2018/03/17
A super set of snow shots from the Gubeikou to Jinshanling Great Wall hike.
We didn’t quite believe the weather forecast for this hike.
It said there might be a chance of sleet and snow in the afternoon.
No way, we thought.
Indeed, the forecast was incorrect – it actually snowed heavily all day, and we almost got stuck in the hills when the motorway closed down.
All ended well though, and all the snow on the Great Wall was an awesome sight.
Photos below!

Ready to get going?

A paved path through a forest.

Up to the wall.

The hike started at the Gubeikou section.

We usually tie red ribbons to mark the trail. No need today – just follow the footprints.

The friendly fellow coming down from the wall warned that it was slippery.

Snow falling on the wall.

Hiking slowly on the wall.

The snow kept falling.

Arriving at a big tower.

We did tie a few ribbons.

Climbing up into the tower.

Looking back down the wall.

Dry leaves laden with spring snow.

After a detour around the military zone we hiked up towards the Jinshanling Great Wall.

On a path by the wall.

Narrow and slippery.

On the wall at Jinshanling.

Snow covered the wall.

Loose bricks under the snow.

The Great Wall turned into a snow dragon.

Coming on to the main part of the wall at Jinshanling.

Usually there’s a good view of the Jinshanling Great Wall here, but today it was obscured.

This large tower marks an important pass.

Another large tower.

Stepping down carefully.

This tower would have been a large one, but now only the walls remain.

We’d finish the hike at the top towers in the background.

Looking back on an excellent hike.
