Hemp Village to Jinshanling Great Wall, 2016/01/09
Photos from the hike through the hills from tiny Hemp Village over to the Jinshanling Great Wall.
It was a cold day as we headed out for this hike, but the clear air and blue skies made it all worthwhile. We started the walk almost in the middle of nowhere, following a dirt road into the tiny hamlet of Hemp Village.
From Hemp Village we hiked a steep hill trail up to the Great Wall, stopping at a lookout point on the way. From the lookout point, we had a sweeping view of the whole Jinshanling section of the Great Wall. Even better than the view? We were going to hike it all.
Photos below!

Hiking in to Hemp Village.

A steep and snowed-over trail beside the Great Wall.

Arrived at the lookout point.

Part of the unrestored section at Jinshanling. At this point we're on the outside of the wall - imagine how tough it would have been to attack here.

Up on the wall, and about to enter a tower.

Great views today.

The Jinshanling Great Wall is built on ridges, with a lot of steep stairs.

A large tower.

One of the steepest - and longest - set of steps.

Almost at the highest point!

Here's the reward for the hard work - a delicious meal.
