Kids Club at Cuandixia ‘Ming Village’, 2022/03/13
See 20 photos from a short hike in the hills and a walk around the lanes and alleys of the village.
For this Kids Club outing we went out to the Ming/Qing Dynasty-era village of Cuandixia, in Beijng’s far west.
We were maybe a bit early this year – the hills were still brown and bleak – but the village wasn’t crowded and it worked out just right.
The first part of the visit took us up to the ‘Golden Turtle Gazing at the Full Moon’ on the ridgeline of the hills opposite the village. From a particular point on the way up the hill – if you get the right angle and squint your eyes a little bit – there is indeed a crag that is vaguely turtle-shaped. The main thing to see from the top, though, is a birds-eye view of the village.
After a huge meal at a restaurant in the village we did a tour of the lanes of the village, getting a look inside the ‘Landlord’s Yard’ and visiting the big village temple.
