Merck Group had their regional conference in Beijing, and they asked us to help them bring the team to the Great Wall for a look at Chinese history.
We first took a hike on the Gubeikou Great Wall, walking up an appetite and getting some awesome views.
We walked all the way down the wall to our favourite local restaurant for a big lunch.
Then it was time for the main event: splitting up into teams for a treasure hunt.
While the group had been hiking, we’d hidden historical artifacts in some of the Ming and Qing era temples in Gubeikou Village.
Each of the teams was handed a map, and then they were off, racing to be the first to find each of the treasures on their list.

After just a few minutes of hiking we could already see the Great Wall.

Here the wall is so broken down we can see the different materials used in construction – rammed earth, rubble, and bricks.

Finally we could see the end of the hike.
Gubeikou Great Wall West – but we were not going to climb that section this time.
After a nice lunch and some rest we were all ready for team work.
