The main part of this trip was seeing the ceremonies and rituals of the ‘Festival of the Sixth Month’. (That’s the sixth month of the lunar calendar, by the way.)
The festival isn’t in a single location, but spreads out through the monasteries, temples, and villages in the Tongren area. Local shamans lead ceremonies and rituals by entering a trance state to channel the spirit of the Mountain God.
During the trip we travelled all around to see the different ceremonies, and we saw a lot! We also hit the hills for some high-altitude hiking, getting up to over 4,000m above sea level.
