White River Ice Hike, 2014/01/19
Photos from our hike along the frozen White River.
This is one of our popular winter hikes, on which we follow a trail through a beautiful gorge and along the frozen White River.
We started out near a small village located in Huairou District, and followed the river down in to Miyun District, which is east of Huairou.
It was a very pleasant flat walk through the gorge. The frozen part of the river was thick, usually between 20-30 cm, and sometimes much thicker.
After around three hours of walking, we arrived at a spot where the middle of the river was free of ice, and where we could see the river running quickly down the middle.
The best part of the hike was where the ice had frozen clear, and we could see all the way down to the river bed.

Ducks enjoying a swim in the river, not scared of cold feet.

These train tracks were actually put in as part of a movie set.

A little wobbly!
