Great Wall Spur camping, 2016/4/16
Photos from a self-supported camping trip on the Great Wall.
We headed out to Huairou District to go camping on the Great Wall, and this time we made it one of the type of trips where you need to carry all the gear yourself.
You'll see in the photos that the skies were very clear. That's because of the very strong winds – we were getting blown about at the campsite, and we almost lost the fly for a tent to a gust while we were setting up.
All in all, a challenging trip – carrying all that heavy gear, and fighting the wind – but well worth it for the views!
See the photos below.
Hiking up to the wall.
Really strong winds made for clear views from the Great Wall.
Here's where where we would camp.
The perfect place to just hang out.
Late afternoon views from the Great Wall.
Capturing the sun as it lights the hills for the last time that day.
Stunning sunset views.
Behind those hills is Beijing city.
Heading off the next day.
A steep hike to come – we were heading up to the peak in the distance.
Very steep on this bit.
The glorious views from the top of the Chinese Knot.
A group photo at the top.
To finish the trip we hiked down to the local guesthouse for a nice warm meal and cold beer!
