High Rise hike to the Walled Village, 2015/09/26
Photos from our High Rise trail, a good long walk that crosses from Changping District over into Huairou District.
We joined two of our trails together to make a good long hike, aiming to make the most of the very pleasant September weather.
Aside for a run-in with some rather unpleasant hornets, we succeeded in our aim – a most pleasant day was had!

Getting ready to do the big hill climb at the start of the hike - the reason this one is called the High Rise.

Lunch break on the other side of the hill, after a close encounter with a swarm of hornets.

Relaxing in terraces below hawthorn trees.

Hawthorns, just in season!

Time to start hiking again after lunch.

Down through the trees.

We took a detour to investigate a tunnel. No blasting today, unlike on a previous visit!

Photo time!

Flowers in bloom.

What’s going on here?

A praying mantis on the road.

Sometimes you need to step off the trail for a 'private moment'.

Burpees competition on the Great Wall.

We hiked by the water in the Little West Lake park.

On the other side of the park, we climbed up to another stretch of Great Wall.

After the hike, a picnic as the sun went down.
