Hiking photos – Earth Day 2012
Earth Day is "an annual day on which events are held worldwide to increase awareness and appreciation of the Earth's natural environment", and every year we like to get involved in events that promote environmental awareness. This year, we helped out on an event with the US Embassy, we took a group of school kids out to do some cleaning up, and we also did our own clean up hike. We didn't get a lot of photos, but you'll see a few below!
The first event was an activity organised by the US Embassy Green Team, and the Green Earth volunteers. The original plan was to clean up a river, plant trees and mushrooms, and construct eco-toilets in a tiny village far north of Beijing, with support from Hebei and Chengde local government. To make a long story short, we ended up doing tree planting and strawberry picking in Miyun.
We also ran cleanup hikes – on one we were assisted by our hikers, and on the other we took a school group out to clean up a section of our Round Tower hiking trail.
The school group braved the rain and did an excellent job cleaning up. We had better weather for our Incense Trail clean up, and we estimate we carried out around 25kg of rubbish.
Many thanks to all who participated, and many thanks to Gung Ho! Pizza who dished out vouchers to everyone who helped out on our Incense Trail clean up hike.
