We took advantage of a full moon to go out for a night hike, and enjoyed a nice evening stroll through the Miyun countryside.

It was just getting dark as we started, and the sun soon set. We were a bit worried by the clouds, but eventually the moon came out to light the way – bright enough for us to cast a shadow as we went, and bright enough for us to not need flashlights for much of the hike.

We didn’t hear much wildlife on this hike, but we saw some planets, and after discussion with our Naturalist, Betsy Taylor, plus consultation with hikers and a quick look at a smart phone, we figured out what we were seeing!

Near the end of the walk we climbed up on to a ridge for a good view, and then headed down to a small village for some snacks and drinks before heading back to the city.

We stopped on the ridge to listen for any activity in the hills around us.
