Hiking photos - Get Lost Again, 2011/03/16
We started this hike in Miyun county northeast of Beijing, heading up a bushy path that gradually worked its way along some high hillsides. From there we got good views of the surrounding hills and valleys down below.
En route we encountered a variety of things related to the flora and fauna of the area, like praying mantis cocoons, abandoned wasps’ nests, cicadas, birds’ nests, and interesting plants, all of which were explained by our resident naturalist, Betsy Taylor. This trail alternated between hillsides and valleys, so we soon descended into the valley just below us and worked our way between the hills before stopping for lunch in a farmers’ orchard, where a local villager came over to chat.
After we started hiking again, we followed the trail as it rose to the top of a hill which provided us with good views of the terrain we’d covered behind us as well as the route and villages ahead. From there the trail descended, passing by terraced fields and eventually ending at a small village.
