On the last day of July we took a trip out to the Jinshanling Great Wall, just over the border in Hebei Province.

The skies were clear, and we enjoyed great views of the Great Wall, especially after we got past where all the tourists were coming up on the cable car.

We hiked to the end of the Jinshanling section, and those who were keen continued on to take a peek at the closed Simatai section. There wasn’t much to report – it seems like most of the construction is to do with restaurants and hotels. There wasn’t any work being done on the wall.

We headed back to the end of the Jinshanling section to finish up with a walk down to Jinshanling’s new Area 2, and took a short drive to a local restaurant where we filled up on food and drink before heading back to Beijing—a fine end to a fine day!

Parts of the Jinshanling Great Wall are quite steep. Between these towers there’s a section of about 110 steps on a 45-50° angle – good exercise!
