Over the Hills to Yaji Mountain, 2016/12/10
Thirteen photos from a long walk through the hills to the temples at Yaji Mountain.
Like the name of the hike says, on this trail we walk over the hills to reach Yaji Mountain.
The hike is right on the border of several of Beijing counties and districts—we start off in a small village in Shunyi District, briefly cross into Miyun County, and then finish in Pinggu District.
We like this walk because the rolling hills on the way to Yaji Mountain are fun to hike through. The temples at Yaji Mountain are also worth a look, even though it’s a tough stair climb to get to the top!

Starting off on the hike.

The trail took us through these rolling hills.

We followed an old road out through a valley.

This wall marks the border of Shunyi and Miyun. The gate is always locked. Lucky there’s room to squeeze below!

We’ve arrived at Yaji Mountain. Here we can see the first set of stairs. There are more behind!

Let’s get going.

Dried berries on the branches.

A diorama depicting Taoist hell.

The temple at the top.

We hiked out from the back of the temple for more views.

Taking photos of the cliffs and mountains behind the temples.
