Silver Pagodas to De Tomb, 2017/3/25
Thirty photos from our hike up to the peak of Silver Mountain and then over the hills to De Tomb.

After a late fall of snow closed the mountain roads to Shuitou Village, we had to change the plan for the hike.
The new plan was a combination of a few trails, making it the ‘Silver Pagodas Plus’ – half of the Silver Pagodas hike, plus the two big hills between the pagodas and the Ming Tombs area.
We found snow on the trail in shaded valleys, which was a strange sight to see with all the blossoms just starting to show on the trees.

The pagodas.

The taller the pagoda, the more important the monk buried below.

The character on the incense burner reads ‘Buddha’.

The view from the back of the pagodas.

Prayer flags and pink blossoms.

Prayer flags and the big bell.

We’d later climb up to the peak.

Snow in the valley behind the pagodas.

The snow was fairly deep.

Pines and rocky outcrops.

More snow.

Clumps of snow in the pines.

The ‘eye in the rock’.

We detoured into an old mountain quarry to find a sunny spot to sit for lunch.

Blossoms in the quarry.

The remains of the quarry.

A great spot for a lunch break.

Looking down from the quarry. The hike would cross the gap in the mountains in the background.

Looking back from the gap in the mountains, with the previous peak seen all the way in the back.

Colours in the hills above Longevity Village.

Some of the blossoms.

A potential holiday home in the hills?

On the way to the last hill we spotted a pair of pretty birds.

From the top of the last hill we could look down to De Tomb (left) and Yong Tomb (right).

We hiked out the gate.
