Sunset over the Huanghuacheng Great Wall, 2016/06/11
Photos from a hike at the Huanghuacheng Great Wall, including some shots we took of the sundown scenery.

During the Dragon Boat Festival we headed out to Huanghuacheng for a late afternoon hike that ended up with us watching the sun go down from the Great Wall.
We first did our Huanghuacheng to the Walled Village hike, a trail that takes us from the restored Great Wall by the Huanghuacheng Reservoir over to the unrestored 'wild' wall near the Little West Lake.
After this first bit of hiking we headed back to Huanghuacheng for dinner, and then we climbed up on to the wall on the other side of the reservoir to watch the sun go down.
We'd actually postponed the hike from the day before because a storm was forecast, and it worked out perfectly - the skies were clear, and we had superb views as the sun set.

The first tower on the our hike over to the Walled Village. We'd watch the sun set from the wall in the background.

Climbing higher up.

Taking a break in a tower.

We continued up steep stairs.

The highest tower on this side.

The hike would take us on to the wall on the distant ridge.

Coming down a steep set of stairs.

An archway, and a good location for a photo.

Hikers atop a tall tower.

We climbed up this steep and rough section of wall.

Looking back down the wall.

Looking north, with a lookout tower seen on a hill above a village.

Another lookout tower.

After dinner, we climbed up to watch sunset, arriving just in time!

We walked back down before it got too dark to see.
