Walled Village to Huanghuacheng Great Wall, 2015/09/10
See 17 photos from a early-autumn visit to the Great Wall at Huanghuacheng.
Our Walled Village to the Huanghuacheng Great Wall hike is a Level 3 hike with some Level 4-type steep climbs - just about 6km in total, but with some steep sections of restored and wild wall to get up and down.
On this visit we enjoyed the clear and cool weather as well as the views of Great Wall, mountains, and the first sights of autumn colours in the foliage.

The last of the berries before the winter comes

On the way up to the wall we needed to duck under some trees that had come down in a recent storm.

Some great views across the valley.

A distant watch tower sits alone amongst the trees

We'd be hiking along this section of Great Wall.

Still lots of flowers to see.

This wild section of Great Wall is covered in brush.

Following the wall down through the brush.

Clear skies, great views.

We hiked through this ruined tower.

A steep downhill and we're on to the renovated section.

But then straight up again.

Looking back at the wall we hiked earlier.

On top of the restored tower after the first climb

Views across the reservoir and to the hills beyond.

The highest point on the walk offered the best views.

We'd finish the hike by following the wall down to the village at the bottom.
