Yunmeng Gorge hike and swim, 2015/07/12
See some photos from a hike up to a special swimming spot in Yunmeng Gorge.
We’d planned the Level 4 Great Flood hike for today, but with a forecast high of 37°C we decided we’d better change the plan!
The Great Flood hike finishes with a walk out Yunmeng Gorge, a scenic area with a river and good pools for swimming. Instead of doing the full hike, we drove straight to Yunmeng Gorge and hiked up to the swimming holes - a much cooler way to spend the day.
We hiked up the gorge, a flat and easy walk between high cliffs. It’s usually even easier, but with the hot weather we were all feeling the heat.
But the reward for venturing out on such a hot day was worth it!

We hiked out of the park area at the entrance to Yunmeng Gorge.

Clear water, nice!

Hiking further up the gorge.

This old road leads up to a tiny village in the gorge.

These girls have the right idea, it's hot!

We stopped to cool down, too.

We walked over these boulders looking for a spot to swim.

Crossing over the old riverbed.

Yes!

Perfect for a swim.

So cool in the water.

Cool, clear water.

Photo time by the rocks.

Cooling off.

Cheers!

Finished swimming.

After swimming we dried off on the rocks.

We hiked back the same way we came.

Last view of the gorge.
