Yunmeng Gorge Swim and Explore, 2017/7/23
Thirteen photos from a walk up to and around our favourite swimming hole in Yunmeng Gorge.

In hot weather we like to organise hikes where there’s a chance to cool off, and we know a swimming hole in Yunmeng Gorge that is just perfect.
To begin with it seemed there wasn’t going to be much need to cool off, as it rained the whole time we were driving out.
We were in luck, though – a few minutes after we arrived the rain stopped, and while it looked like it might rain later it stayed dry.
The heavy rain earlier in the day meant the views were extra nice, with low clouds hanging on the cliffs of the gorge.

On the way up to our swimming spot we stopped for a look at a swing bridge.

Over the bridge is a cliff that’s popular with climbers. We’ve always been curious about what’s further up that valley.

Further up the gorge was our swimming hole.

We also explored further up the gorge, walking up for a look at a tiny village.

An old farm house – empty now.

We hiked back down the river.

There are a lot of goats in the area.

We hiked back down to the swimming hole.

Water and boulders.

The swimming hole.

We walked back out to finish the hike.

A river runs out the gorge, ending up at the Miyun Reservoir.

After swimming and hiking it was time for some snacks.
