The Jiankou section of the Great wall is one of our favourite places to hike for two reasons: the views are impressive and the area is seldom visited. On this hike we had clear skies and a nice breeze to make for a fantastic day of hiking. Click through to see the photos!

Yanqing Great Wall and High Tower Challenge, 2016/09/24

The Yanqing Great Wall and High Tower trail is one of our favourite long walks in Beijing—about 17km long, with a lot of climbing up and down, and great views the whole way.

We lucked out with the weather on this visit as well, coming through a big fog on the drive there and then out into clear skies just in time to start the hike.

The scenery was varied: monasteries and mosques, grasslands and mountains, and 4,000m-plus mountains. Click through to see Katie’s photos from the trip!

Yoga and Meditation at the Bashang Grasslands, August 2016

Yoga and Meditation at the Bashang Grasslands, August 2016

YogaDigest magazine came to us with an idea for a trip that would include meditation and yoga in an outdoor setting, and asked if we’d be interested in helping them put something together.

We thought it was a great idea, and helped them organise all the logistics—transport, guides, accommodation and food, plus we picked out quiet spots atop hills for meditation and relaxation.

Longquanyu Great Wall to the Little West Lake, 2016/08/10

On some of our Great Wall walks it’s a 40-minute hike before you set foot on top of it, but at Longquanyu it’s just two minutes before you’re up on top.

The hike follows both repaired and unrestored stretches of Great Wall, and finishes with a stroll out past the Little West Lake, a park area where you can see the wall dipping down into the water.

Switchback Great Wall camping, 2016/08

In the midst of that run of rainy weather in late July this year we found a few clear days to take the STOMP crew out for a camping trip on the Great Wall.

As a privately-arranged trip it was a bit more flexible—we were able to wait for good weather, and on the second day we were able to get the team back to the city early enough for a rest before their evening performance!

Click through to see photos of the Great Wall, the campsite, and some other action from the trip.
