Hiking photos - Mr. Mao’s Chestnut Orchard, 2010/04/24
On April 24, 2010, we headed out to Huairou District for a walk through Mr. Mao's chestnut orchards. Mr. Mao is more than sixty years old, and still very fit. He's also very friendly. The hike through the chestnut orchards is nice and easy, and we had good views of blossoms, as well as stretches of Great Wall on either side of the valley where Mr. Mao lives. After we finished the hike, we had a delicious lunch prepared by Mrs. Mao!

Hanging in one of the trees, a 'scarecat.'

The scarecat, ready to pounce.

We climbed up into the orchards, following a hill trail.

The trail led along a ridge.

In the mountains behind the orchards is a stretch of Great Wall with fifteen towers - a very tough walk.

Blossoms in the dry hills.

We continued along the ridge, with views of the Great Wall in the distance.

Our local guide, Mr. Mao.

We walked out through a valley.

We finished the hike by crossing some stepping stones, and then headed to Mr. Mao's guesthouse for a tasty lunch.
