Nine Eyes Tower on Flame Mountain
This is a looping walk over steep and rocky terrain, with a lot of scrambling and climbing required to arrive at the highest point on the hike, the impressive Nine-Eyes Tower. On a clear day in this spot in the heart of the mountains it will be possible to see sections of Great Wall to the north, south, east, and west. Five hours of tough hiking with a lot of climbing over approximately 10km. Limited spaces left.

The Perfect Loop
For this hike we’ll take a trip out to Pinggu County for a moderately difficult walk that will take you up and down valleys and a small gorge, over mountain passes, along ridges, across a plateau, and through a few small and tranquil villages. In many places along the way we will have panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. We’re doing a modified version this time, making it a little easier by cutting out some of the tough climbing. Suitable for children over 8 years of age.

Great Wall Spur Mid-week
On this hike will visit a remote stretch of the Great Wall that was completed around 1580, during the reign of Emperor Wan Li. After a very tough climb up a hillside trail we’ll follow the Great Wall along a ridge, enjoying great views the whole way. After the hike we’ll eat a late lunch at a countryside hotel. (cost of lunch and drinks included in the price of the hike)

Tiger Valley
There’s no guarantee of meeting a tiger on this hike - most likely a good thing. The hike starts from one of the smaller Ming Tombs, follows a mountain trail up and over a ridge, and then heads down through Tiger Valley. At this time of year the cherry blossoms in the hills should be in full bloom. We’ll finish up at the local water reservoir by Tiger Valley Park.

Jinshanling to Simatai
The walk starts at Jinshanling and follows the restored Great Wall for 10km, passing through many towers and climbing steep steps, winding up, along, and over ridges on the way to Simatai - great views from the Great Wall the whole way. We’ll head back to Beijing after a late lunch at a restaurant that looks out over the Simatai reservoir.

Round Tower Great Wall Midweek
We’re going to pay a visit to the Round Tower, a lookout and beacon tower that is part of the Great Wall in Miyun District. From the top we will enjoy amazing views in almost every direction - a deep canyon on one side, mountains on the other, and a broad view of the Beijing plain and our path up and down the mountain. After we finish the hike, we’re going to get a late lunch at a nearby restaurant. The cost of the food and drinks is included in the price of the hike.

Triangle Hike
For the Triangle Hike we’ll head to Changping County for a countryside and forest walk that starts with a steady uphill climb from a small village, passes a large pine tree that is a local landmark, and heads down to a river that will lead us to the end of the hike. Suitable for children over 8 years old.

Walled Village to Moss Mountain
This hike starts at the Walled Village, a converted army barracks that used to house soldiers tasked with guarding the Great Wall in the area. We’ll investigate the ruins of what locals say was the original White Cloud Temple in the Beijing area, as well as a 500-year old ginkgo tree that has a Level 1 Natural Treasure rating. From there we will follow a trail that climbs gradually through chestnut orchards to a big pine tree at a pass on the ridgeline.

Huanghuacheng Great Wall Loop
This part of the Great Wall is known for its steepness and height, and is featured in Lonely Planet guides. Climb a few towers for excellent views, climb further and get a look out over the local reservoir and various small villages. After a steep descent we’ll take a country road through farmland and orchards, heading for the restaurant where we’ll get a late lunch. Price includes late lunch and drinks. Not suitable for people who are not good with heights - check the photos for an example.
