Down The White River, 2016/07/10
Fifteen photos from a new trail down the White River.

We tried out a new trail down the White River, hiking a section closer to the Miyun Reservoir and close to some of the cliffs that are popular with climbers. We didn't see any climbers, but we did see some lovely scenery.
The new trail starts where our regular White River hike ends, and goes through several riverside spots popular with day trippers. Much of the rest of the trail follows the river through some farming areas. We saw a lot of corn growing by the river as well as large flocks of sheep grazing.
This hike was on a day where the forecast for Beijing city was 37°C. Out in Miyun it was only 34°C (!), still a hot day for a walk. Luckily we could cool down in the water.

We started off beside the river.

We hiked down, while others floated.

A detour through a grassy area.

Crossing over again, passing a popular spot by the riverside.

We continued down the river valley.

Another crossing.

Further down, cliffs on one side of the river with grassy banks on the other side.

We crossed over to get a little break in the shade under the trees on the other side - it was a hot day!

Looking back at the crossing.

That's how to cool down.

After cooling down we moved on.

Another crossing.

We made our way through a flock of sheep.

An umbrella made an appearance - not because of rain, but because of sun.

The trail took us through cornfields beside the river and over some irrigation channels.
