Hulunbuir Grasslands, Inner Mongolia, 2014/07
Photos from a trip through the Hulunbuir Grasslands in Inner Mongolia.
In the heat of summer the cool and calm grasslands of Inner Mongolia are a great escape from Beijing.
Although we’ve noticed the area getting more and more commercialised, it’s still a fun trip with a lot to see - as well as the grasslands, it’s interesting to see the Russian influence on food and culture in the border towns.
See the photos below for the story of the trip.

Hiking guide Yanjing trying it out. Looks like a good fit!

Chatting with a shepherd beside a yurt.

Wild mushrooms, but not sure if they were edible. At least none of us tried to eat them.

Horse in the grass.

We walked over for a closer look at the horses.

Classic grassland scenery.

Interesting succulents.

This kind of river feature is sometimes called an Oxbow or Crescent.

Is it a squirrel or a chipmunk?

Sunset over the grasslands.

Clouds and flowers.

We walked through a farming area, with rolls of hay baled up.

A closer look at the haybales.

Blue skies and green grass.

We thought these were a type of dandelion.

A simple but tasty meal at a farmhouse.

Thanks for lunch!

While walking about we bumped into some cows on the way to the milking shed. A lot of milk is produced in the area.

Hand-made crafts in a village house.

We visited a reserve and met a moose.

A view of the grasslands.

A really nice spot for a rest.

Flocks of birds over the wetlands.

Wonder where this camel came from?
