Switchback Great Wall, 2013/09/01
21 photos from our hike up to the Switchback Great Wall in Yanqing County.

On this visit, we had lovely clear weather for hiking and got some excellent photos of an obscure section of Great Wall in Yanqing County.
We don't do this hike so often, because parts of it are very steep and tricky. But it's a great place to go for a good walk, with old, unrestored Great Wall winding through the hills.

The hike started off beside a steep section of Great Wall.

Before we could get on to the wall we had to pass this long-legged spider.

After a quick break to drink some water we continued up along the wall.

At some points the wall disappeared into the greenery.

Taking photos of the highest point on the hike.

There were more stairs and steps to climb before we could get to the high point.

The wall here follows a ridgeline.

This is a shot of the ‘switchback’, where the Great Wall doubles back on itself.

Before getting to the switchback section there was a lot of climbing up to do.
