White River Hike, 2014/7/13
Photos from our walk down the White River canyon in Miyun County.
Beijing gets hot in summer … very hot! What better way to cool down than with a stroll down a river?
The White River is one of the rivers that feed the big Miyun Reservoir, and the river winds its way down a long canyon with dramatic cliffs and outcrops.
We had blue skies and hot weather on this walk – perfect!

Getting started near a village beside the river.

Part of the trail took us along roads beside the river.

Some of the roads were built up by the companies that run the floating activities along the river – it’s a popular place to visit.

We walked beside the river, and then headed up to follow a path a little higher up.

Walking beside the river.

The path took us to this wobbly swing bridge.

Blue skies and lots of green – very scenic.

Looking back upstream.

Time to get the feet wet.

Trying out the temperature.

First dip the toes in …

Here’s how our hiking guides do it – get straight in there.

We waded through this section.

Some rafts were still coming downstream.

The gravel road beside the river.

No need to get the feet wet on this crossing.

Picked a cool spot to have lunch.

We stopped here for our lunch break.

Cooling down in the river.

Crossing over to find a nice rock to sit on.

After lunch we moved on.

After crossing over here we walked on to the end of the hike.
