White River hike, 2017/08/06
Twenty-four photos from a walk down the White River.

The White River hike is one of our favourite summer walks – the views are excellent, and you can cool down by splashing about in the water.
The only problem is that summer in Beijing is also the most rainy time of the year, which sometimes spoils the river walks – either it rains, or the river level is too high to be safe.
No such problem on this visit! Blue skies and lovely clear water.

We hiked down to the river.

A bridge on this crossing means we don’t need to get wet.

We walked a gravel road beside the river.

A crossing – not too deep here.

We continued around the corner.

We took a break on these big rocks.

Up on top.

Lucky we had a zoom lens – you don’t want to get too close to a nest of wasps.

We hiked around the bend in the river.

Up on the rocks above the river.

Crossing over.

Not too deep, but no way around.

Clear water.

Nice and cool.

Hiking poles help you balance while crossing slippery rocks.

Easy.

At water level.

This was a deeper crossing, and the water was running faster.

Quite deep here, too.

Lovely scenery.

In the middle of the river.

Flowers by the trail.

Dragonfly.

Getting ready for one of the final crossings.

A bit of traffic on the river.
