Hiking photos – Lily Village, 2012/03/04
On this hike, we first started by walking into Lily Village, a small settlement in the hills of Huairou District. Because of the cold weather and a recent snowfall, not many people were out and about, but we did see village dogs and goats.
We hiked up to and past a reservoir, and then took a path down a narrow valley to get into the chestnut orchards of the farmers on the other side of the ridge.
The next part of the hike led us by the Hot Springs hotel, where we stopped for a fancy lunch.
After letting our meal settle a little we headed on the Silver Pagodas, which were quite a sight in the snow.
Heading into the village at the start of the hike.
Terraces in the snow, with the iced-over reservoir below.
An old dog was staring at us curiously, perhaps hoping for a donation to his food bowl.
Another village dog in front of its gate.
We followed the village road up through the fields.
This slippery valley took us down towards the Hot Springs hotel.
At the hot springs hotel, we enjoyed a fancy (for this deep in the Beijing countryside) meal.
On the way to the Silver Pagodas we passed by another village, and spotted some goats …
… and another village dog, looking a little cold.
We continued through fields and orchards on the way to the pagodas.
This statue of a Kylin (mythical beast) has been here for hundreds of years.
A view from behind the snow covered pagodas, looking beautiful in the snow.
