Day 1: White River hike
We’ll be following the White River as it winds through a deep and wide canyon with numerous forks and steep rocky cliffs, making this an extremely picturesque hike that is easy to finish as long as you don’t mind getting your feet wet crossing the river.
In some places there are bridges and stepping stones that you can use to cross, but for many of the crossings it’s off with the shoes as we wade across. The water is usually neither deep nor fast.
At times, the trail leads us through trees, but for most of the walk we’ll follow the course of the river. It’s flat the whole way, and the only thing that really makes this a long day is the need to take off our shoes at various crossings of the river.
Note: If the river level is raised because of rain we might not be able to do the full hike. We’ll know for sure in the week before the hike. If necessary, we’ll change the hike to avoide the deepest crossings.
- 8–12km
- 3–4 hours to finish
- Miyun District, Beijing
Day 2: Immortal Valley hike
The Immortal Valley Loop is a nice long hike that takes us up on to the ridgeline of the mountains west of the Miyun Reservoir. We start in a park area, and hike out the back to get up to one of the peaks in the mountains.
The park area is popular with day trippers, but not everyone knows the trail to get up to the peak at the end of the valley, and even fewer people know the alternative trails down from the peak.
If the skies are clear, we get amazing views of the mountains and Miyun Reservoir once we get up to the top. We’ll take a break at the top, and will take our time to enjoy the views – a deep river valley on one side, the Miyun Reservoir on the other side, and mountains all around.
- 10–14km
- 4–5 hours to finish
- 225m start height
- 785m peak
- 743m ascent/descent
- Miyun District, Beijing
The White River hike is mostly flat, but sometimes the crossings are tricky. The Immortal Valley hike may be difficult for younger children or those who are not sporty, but we can offer a shorter version.
Age range: The trip is suitable for children eight years and up. The hiking trails can altered slightly to make them easier.
Group size: We're able to organise this hike for groups of 8–80 students. For large groups we’ll provide a group management plan.

Times are approximate.
Drive time for this hike is 2 hours each way, depending on traffic. We can leave earlier in the morning, or later, if preferred – it’s up to you!
We’ll come to meet you at your school. The guides and buses will arrive early and send you a text when they’re ready to go.
It’s easiest if we organise the transport, as we use drivers who are familiar with the hike locations and organisation.
Vehicles are leased from the Shouqi Group, a company fully licensed to provide passenger transport. Vehicles have seatbelts and are safe, reliable, and are regularly serviced and checked.
If the school can supply buses, our guides will work with the drivers for directions and locations.
We'll stay in a countryside hotel on this trip.
Hotel rooms are standard doubles. Each room has a private bathroom with basic facilities.
Main meals and drinks, plus water to drink during the hikes, are included in the price of the trip.
Our main meals will be at the hotel restaurant. Menu can be supplied on request.
Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements or food allergies.
For small groups, payment on the day is fine, although we may request a small deposit to confirm the booking. For larger groups we will request a deposit to confirm the booking, with the balance due on the day of the hike.
