How many people are in the hiking groups?
Read an overview of how many people might be in your hiking group. Most of our join-in group hikes are small, usually 5–12 people.
Our join-in group hikes usually have between 5 and 12 people. Sometimes the group is smaller and sometimes a bit larger, especially when the weather’s great, it’s a holiday, or if it’s one of our special routes.
Before 2020 (*ahem!*) we sometimes took very large groups, but these days things are more relaxed. Most hikes are smaller and easier to manage, which means a better experience for everybody.
When the group is larger, we send more hike leaders and use a bigger vehicle to make sure everyone’s comfortable. With enough leaders, we can spread out along the trail so it never feels crowded, and you can go at your own pace. Usually, two guides go out with groups of eight or more, and three guides if there are more than fifteen people. The lead guide walks with the faster hikers at the front, while the other leaders keep an eye on the middle and back of the group.
If you’d like to know what kind of group to expect, please feel free to get in touch—we’ll let you know the current booking levels and whether it’s likely to be a smaller or larger group.
